I highly recommend this restaurant. It's not located in a popular area for tourists, but if you happen to be close by, it's a good option. You can walk-in, and although it's cash only, an ATM is not far away. The food is very fresh and delicious. Try to order from the seasonal recommended menu! The soup at the very beginning is full of beef and mushroom (and bamboo shoots?). Tender beef, not very lean, so it's of good quality. The chef made that after I came in. It's not like those regular miso soup that's salty and has barely anything in it. It's beef mushroom soup. The crab is very good. It has basically every part of the crab that you would want to eat. Very light or even none seasoning, very fresh and tasty, and the sauce is ginger and a sour sauce (yuzu vinegar?). Very good.Saba sashimi is very good. (鰆, Japanese Spanish mackerel, but if you just say mackerel it's a different fish, and chef got confused for a while.)Deep fried foods (kushikatsu) seem to be the featured foods here. I had deep fried baby tuna, wagyu, chicken thigh (have to admit it is better in yakitori than deep fried), ginkgo nuts, maitake, shrimp (tempura is better). Very high quality deep fried foods. The cold udon is very good and has a firm and chewy texture. It's thin udon, not the ones you usually eat, but I personally like the thinner ones better.Very few customers came in when I was having my dinner. It was a Monday night, and there were no other tourists other than me. The customers are all locals, and one of them is a restaurant owner. There is only one chef, likely the owner of this restaurant, and there's no other staff. He is very kind and willing to use a translator app to communicate with me.Personally I think it should at least earn a Michelin Bib Gourmand. Maybe a 1 star if there are some fancy signature dishes, but I don't think it needs that star. It's very intimate, very chill, and you can feel the chef loves what he does, has put a lot of effort and thoughts in it, and is good at it. The seasonal menu is well thought out, and the food is in very good quality.I enjoy cooking myself occasionally, and this restaurant somehow made me feel that the chef is having the ultimate enjoyment of the cooking that I could relate to.
Great find after visiting the shrine market near by! Friendly service and delicious food, was able to accommodate us without a reservation. Look forward to visiting again next time I’m in Japan
Wow! What great find! After departing Kitano Tenmangu shrine one evening, we were feeling thirsty and peckish. My friend had never had kushikatsu before so I decided to find a local place. We stumbled across Sashiyori and were delighted find two seats available in an otherwise crowded tiny watering hole. It was perfect. Whilst you can order a la carte, we opted for the Kashi katsu special of 6 pieces for 1300 JPY. We were given hot and fresh, one by one; pork, steak, sweet potato, shitake mushroom, shrimp, and not on the menu but seasonal... the most tender fried oyster I've ever eaten. Just wonderful! We will return!
Stumbled into the restaurant while looking for dinner during my stay in Kyoto. The entire menu was in Japanese but it was not an issue for Google Translate, the owner was kind and did his best to communicate with us. This was a kushikatsu restaurant set up with bar countertop seating. We ordered a number of dishes ranging from beef to shrimp to hot dog, and the chef cooked it on the spot! Everything was so fresh and you could really taste the quality of the ingredients. I would love to visit again in the near future, it was super delicious.

So lucky to stumble on this restaurant, as everything on the menu was a hit. This is a chef who takes pride in his cooking method - and it shows it whichever dish he makes. Didn’t try the kushikatsu but highly recommend the udon for its chewiness and dashmaki for its umami
