Located in the historical section of the city, this home is kept in top condition. The bathroom facilities are in a separate outhouse but only 5 steps away in the well kept small courtyard. All amenities are updated and in top conditions. We stayed here for 1.5 days and had to leave early due to unexpected circumstances, but enjoyed this place. The host is very communicative too, willing to help in every way.The only draw back of being in the old city is it is somewhat painful to get to the retail zone (other options nearby close early) located closer to the new city center/train station. The host provided 2 bikes but for our family of 2+1 (we requested well ahead but I think the host may have forgotten), it didn't help much and we could not get far on foot in a timely manner. As a matter fact, in a smaller city it is a MUST have for adequate number of bikes to take advantage of all it has to offer. All in all, this house is recommended just make sure you plan for transportation options ahead of time ( bus service is infrequent and limited)

This is a great place to stay. Real old style Japanese house in the historic post of Omihachiman .The house itself is very well maintained.Tatami mat rooms, upstairs room and a very well kept kitchen with crockery, cutlery and glasses. The outside bathroom at the rear is very modern with all necessary amenities. Located in the northwest of Omihachiman, it is a bit of a walk from the main shopping area and station, about a 20-30 minute walk depending on your pace. Some very nice restaurants located nearby. The heating unit works very well as it can get very cold at night which does highlight the situation with the outside bathroom.I think it would help alot if yukatas were provided to use as going to the toilet in the dead of night it is very very cold. Obviously being old style means using futons and putting them out every night, not a problem, they were actually really comfortable and worked wonders for my back. Not really any clothing storage apart from a few coat hangers to hang things on the hooks on the walls. Overall it was a fun and interesting experience. I would recommend it. It really is a beautiful place.
