Love this place this season! The curry is delicious, karaoke night is super fun and friendly, and they were also selling some cute handmade beanies.
The go to spot in Madarao for a drink and feed with a warm welcoming fun vibe especially after a full day on the hill.I’ve been coming to the area for sometime now, but despite staying elsewhere this time, we still made a point of coming to Smokies after a day of shredding. Benny and the crew really put on a great vibe and the worst part is having to leave to go home. Do yourself a favour and get both Sandwiches simply because I can’t decide which is better. They’re both so good.Hnggggg I really want a Tuna Melt right now.Cheers for having us legends!!!

Had an amazing experience here! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with great music and a really stylish setup. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive without being over the top, which made the whole night feel relaxed and enjoyable.The food was outstanding — everything came out fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. The drinks menu was just as impressive, with plenty of options and some really well-made cocktails. You can tell they put a lot of care into both the quality and the service.Whether you’re coming for a casual dinner, drinks with friends, or a special occasion, this place is definitely worth it. I’ll 100% be back and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great bar and dining experience.
A "must do" when you're in Madarao! Ben and the team at Smokies make you feel very welcome and the food is some of the best on the mountain! The Sri Lankan Chicken Curry was a standout for me, and my son loved the Chicken Katsu Sandwich just as much! Has a great range of drinks as well with a range of ChuHi and Sake as well as all the normal Apres Ski favourites! Its very popular so making a booking as recommeneded if you're a group of say 4 or more, but they do walk ins as well.
After struggling to find decent food options compared to other resorts we've visited in the Nagano area we found Smokies. Emailed a few days out from wanting to go there and got a reply from Ben confirming a table booking which was great. Several restaurants in Madarao don't do bookings, unlike Smokies. We found the food lovely and fresh and just what you want coming off the slopes. Tuna melt, chicken sando and beef rendang curry went down a treat. Curry in particular was very authentic and tasty. Fries were the best on the mountain. Cheap and cheerful with a great atmosphere and awesome service! Thanks Ben and the team. We wish we found Smokies earlier in the trip and we would have visited a few times. All the best for the rest of the Madarao season.
We had a great dinner at Smokies - the Sri Lankan curry was absolutely delicious, as was the karage and chicken katsu sandwich! The staff were all lovely too. Recommend booking ahead during peak season.
Honestly cannot recommend this place enough, the katsu chicken sandwich is the best thing I’ve ever had. When you pair that with the chat from will and Bella, it is just a warm, cosy and welcoming environment. Perfect for solo or small group travellers.
The food was really good. Not many option for vegetarian but the was still a good option. Big portions and worth your money. They had a piano that you could play if you wanted and nice atmosphere. The service was nice and quick. You didn’t need a reservation for small parties but for bigger groups would recommend one. Menu had shrilacan curries and sandwich’s and really good edamame. The menu wasn’t big but what they had was good. Overall nice atmosphere and good food worth your money!

Great little joint in Madarao for either pre/post-dinner snacks and drinks, dinner, or apres.We came in for dinner and had the chicken katsu and tuna melt sandwiches and both were fantastic!! Filling enough for dinner.They have a great drink selection and good vibes inside as well. It's a nice casual atmosphere that naturally found us talking to guests on other tables quite easily.All the cocktails were a hit and so were their selection of beers and chuhai's.Overall a great vibe and will definitely come back. Highly recommend to any other guests staying in the area for their ski holiday
