I went by myself to Mt Hiei, with just Hiromi who runs the company and a translator. I felt like I was going on a trip with good wise friends. Hiromi has spent years building good relationships with the people you are meeting on these experiences, and that makes such a difference in the experience as a tourist.
We (family of 4, two teenage kids) took the Roof Masters tour, where we learned about the production of onigawara roof ornaments and then about traditional roofing techniques, ate a lunch of fresh soba noodles, and visited some of the shrines at the foot of Mount Hiei. Our guide Misako was lovely and the tour director Hiromi was friendly and helpful over email. We could easily have spent another day in Kyoto seeing the bigger tourist attractions instead, but this was a wonderful chance to meet real artisans and learn about their work.
J'ai fait le Mochi tour avec ma fille et on a adoré. Très belle rencontre avec nos hôtes qui nous ont expliqués la fabrication du mochi traditionnelle. Ensuite, ils nous ont reçu chez eux pour manger un sukiyaki délicieux et on a pu discuter de la culture japonaise. De très bonnes personnes !!! Notre guide Asami, nous a aider pour la traduction et nous a appris beaucoup sur la religion Shinto et Bouddhiste
