Eva is an extremely talented taiko drummer and an amazing instructor. I'd highly recommend these classes to take a small piece of Japanese culture home with you.
I enrolled in a lesson in a group setting with Eva. Eva shared the tradition of taiko with us with great pedagogy and enthusiasm. As a percussionist, I really enjoyed the group lesson with other beginners, and would pursue more private lessons if the time allowed during my time in Japan. The studio was also well equipped and in an excellent location, although you do need to take stairs to access the studio. Eva recommended that we wear comfortable clothing and bring water; it was totally needed. Playing taiko is very physical and I was working up a sweat within the first half of the lesson. Taiko sticks are also larger and heavier than common drumsticks and mallets so be weary of this when playing. A good stretch before and after would be helpful. :) Thank you, Eva!
I took Eva's 90-minute travelers course and it's an absolute must for anyone visiting Tokyo. You're guaranteed to work up a sweat and learn something new about the Taiko art form. Whether you're a complete beginner or a veteran Taiko player, you're in for a real treat.Something notable about this course is you'll basically be playing almost nonstop. Which is the point. Of course you'll mess up. You'll be exhausted. But that's what Taiko is about, pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and being a part of a really special art form which everyone should experience at some point in their lives.I can't recommend this course enough. Eva is a fantastic teacher and I now have another reason to come back to Tokyo again.Thanks again Eva!
Eva is a great teacher, and the price of taking a taiko workshop with her is much more fair than other workshops marketing to tourists. I would probably recommend musicians to book a private lesson rather than a group lesson to move a little faster however the group lesson was challenging as a percussionist with no experience of taiko and her teaching style brings together different levels of ability.
What a unique and brilliant experience, a window into Japanese culture. For solo travellers, couples groups or families. Eva really brings the taiko spirit and let you enjoy it!!!
If you want one heck of a taiko class, this is it. Eva was an excellent instructor and explained all the different rhythms, drums and had us perform in a 90 minute class.It was a great workout as you’re constantly moving and learning. We all performed together and at no point did anybody feel embarrassed.She speaks fluent English and her experience shows in her teaching.Make sure to bring water as it is a bit of an exercise. I felt like I learned a lot about the art of Taiko and wish I brought friends.
We did a 90min taiko drumming workshop with Eva through GetYourGuide and this was a very fun and immersive experience. We learnt a lot about the history and principles of taiko. Eva was a fantastic teacher, explaining things very clearly and patiently taking us through basic rhythms and a traditional piece as well. Highly recommend this for a unique cultural experience.

Our group of 11 had an AWESOME beginners’ taiko experience with Eva!In the 1.5 hour session, Eva took us through basic strokes and rhythm drills, culminating in a contemporary group performance and a traditional “group battle” finale. Eva is an excellent teacher and you can really appreciate the craft through her loud, powerful strikes and impeccable coordination.Something we appreciated is that Eva doesn’t baby the experience — lots of fast, non-trivial rhythms. Coming out of the session, we were deeply impressed by her masterful direction and found the experience to be extremely rewarding.Some additional notes:- The studio is in the basement of an apartment building in a residential neighborhood. You’re not in the wrong place! 🏠- Taiko is a really physical activity - Prepare to sweat a lot and bring a towel and water 💦- Eva generously provides fun take-home videos and photos for your review and practice 🎥
