An unforgettable experience! Our family had an amazing time learning from a true Sensei and master swordsman. The instruction was authentic, fun, interactive, and engaging for all ages. Handling the katana and learning real samurai techniques was both fascinating and memorable. The Sensei was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate. One of the highlights of our trip to Kyoto!
武道初心者でしたが楽しく通い続けてます！門下生の年齢は20代〜60代くらいまで、色んな国籍の方も多くて幅広い方たちとお稽古を楽しんでいます。お稽古中は真剣に、お稽古が終われば和気藹々と、和の文化が好きな方ばかりなので共通の話題でよく盛り上がってます笑技の数が非常に多いので最初は大変ですが飽きる事なく長く楽しめるので大人になってからの趣味として始めて本当に良かったです！刀も購入出来ます。お迎えした刀と一緒にお稽古出来るのはとっっても楽しいです。
最初に映画やゲームみたいな堅苦しさを想像した上で入館したが、実際にはシンプルな動作を繰り返すことや日々の弛みなく練習を積み重ねることにより、昔の侍が使われていた剣の技を確実に身に付けられると感じている。また、精神面と身体の調和が極めて大事にされているのが本館の特徴であり、単に技を習得することで必ずしも上達に繋がるとは限らず、心の鍛錬にも力を入れることこそ、一人前の侍に成長できるようになる。よって、心身の鍛錬と剣技の習得を同時に目指す人にはぴったりと言えるでしょうか。日本刀及び日本の伝統に興味を持ち、もしくは侍の作法と剣技を身に付けたい方には是非体験して頂ければ幸いである。
5 stars! Strongly recommend 京都勇進 Yushinkan Kyoto Iaido Dojo in Kyoto.I took a section of Samurai Training with Modern day Musashi class to learn how to use a practice iaito (a blunt training sword). I wanted to try nitoryu 二刀流 (two-sword style), but that’s obviously not for beginners hahah. 😇The dojo is very welcoming to foreigners and had a fluent English interpreter who explained things clearly. I could follow the Japanese instructor easily.The place is clean, and the class was friendly and well organized, a great introduction to real Japanese sword practice right in central Kyoto, and it’s close to the subway.Later I went back and bought a real antique katana (over 500 years old) from the dojo master, Yushin Kancho. It’s beautiful, light and slim, unique in its own way, the Katana came with certification and proper papers so they could ship it to my home county without problems. ✌️This Samurai experience is perfect for tourists or beginners who want an authentic iaido session, and it's also a great place for anyone looking to buy real Japanese swords for cutting or display. Highly recommended! 👏👏👏
型、木刀で打ち合う剣術、試斬、全て出来るのは、ここ以外では難しいと思います。年齢層も幅広く男女共に楽しく稽古に打ち込めます。この歳になって、もっと上手く成りたい、と強烈に思い続けている日々です。

Such a great experience. Held within a real dojo, trained by a sensei. The whole family truly enjoyed it. Would recommend to anyone! They had an English translator (who trains within the dojo) there the whole time too. Great guy. Don’t hesitate to sign up!
