A small hardware store with a modest assortment of gardening supplies and construction tools, including some woodworking hand tools like chisels, kanna planes, and saws.I'm into hand tool woodworking and was looking to do a little shopping. The owner was in the back when I entered and I don't think he heard me come in, so when he came out to help another customer he was understandably shocked to see a big American guy had materialized in his store, haha.All the same, I used my extremely limited Japanese to ask if he had any "kote nomi"—cranked-neck chisels—and he quite patiently made sure he understood what I was asking for, and was apologetic that he didn't carry any. I bought a regular old ryoba—double-edged pull saw—and he gave me a discount off the sticker price. I'm not sure why, but it was a friendly experience!
