バーバー文助の特徴
壁一面が紅葉で、美しい雰囲気が漂う理髪店です。
上品な佇まいで、思わず立ち寄りたくなる魅力があります。
40年前から地元で愛されている、歴史あるお店でもあります。
When I went out of the museum, I saw the barber sign and I thought hey maybe go for a shave! Little did I know that this man is a legend! I had an amazing experience, he is very funny and energetic for his age! He even did push ups in front of me! So powerful energy! The place is an antique shop really it has a nostalgic vibe! Thank you, the man from Greece!
The barber is an absolute legend. Place is full of vintage items, very messy but all part of a somewhat special and different experience. While getting my hair cut he played a video of an article about him renovating a 100 year old house in Takayama, very interesting. This guy is special, and gives a good haircut. Price was 1500 yen which is way cheaper than other places I looked at.
目を奪われるお店の佇まい。
壁一面が「紅葉」雰囲気ありまくりで素敵だったので思わずパシャっ。

Just a short walk from the old streets of Hida Takayama, Shuji-san’s barbershop is impossible to miss — and even harder to forget. Before I ever stepped inside, Shuji-san spotted me from across the road, sketchbook in hand. With a huge smile and effortless warmth, he wandered over, introduced himself, and encouraged me on the spot. That small gesture told me everything I needed to know. When I finished sketching, he invited me in — not as a customer, but as a guest. The exterior alone feels like a destination. Lush green vines spill across the walls in warmer months, while winter transforms them into something equally beautiful and quietly poetic. Tourists regularly gather outside, jockeying for the perfect photo, drawn in by a storefront that looks as though it’s been lifted straight from a Hayao Miyazaki dream.Out front sits Shuji-san’s iconic turquoise Volkswagen Kombi — a local celebrity in its own right — often spotted cruising through town or parked by the Miyagawa morning markets as the day begins.Step inside and your senses are instantly overwhelmed in the best possible way. The shop is a lovingly curated world of organised chaos: vintage payphones, life-size advertising cut-outs, old bicycles, signs and memorabilia layered into every corner. It’s immersive, nostalgic, and endlessly fascinating. Shuji-san is well known for this remarkable collection, having appeared on multiple TV shows celebrating his passion for preserving the past. But as impressive as the space is, Shuji-san himself remains the heart of it all. Charismatic, warm, and endlessly welcoming, he’s just as happy offering a haircut or shave as he is sharing a story or a laugh. He’s a true gentleman, a local character, and a reminder that some places are special not just because of how they look — but because of the people who bring them to life. This isn’t just a barbershop. It’s a living artwork, anchored by a man you’ll remember long after you leave Takayama.
