大内町招魂社。
Watch OutNice quiet rural shrien with a view over Niho village. There was a bottle of rice wine behind the collection box as an offering when I went. The shrine name, Shoukon-Sha means "Inviting Souls Shrine" and calls the souls of those deceased in post Meiji combat to the memorials of their friends. The first of this series of shrines was built for the new modern irregular army (kihetai) and those who died in the battle of Shimonoseki Straight against the Brits. There is also a rudimentary public convenience in the grounds of the shrine, but watch out for the low doorway. It was okay walking in but there is slope up inside so I bumped my helmet walking out. If I were a little taller and helmetless I'd be concussed. One of the shrine lanterns was donated by the satellite parabola company nearby so there is a mixture of new and old. We will remember them.
