I studied with GenkiJACS for one month in Tokyo. The classes (in Tokyo) are 4 hours a day (5days a week) with changing schedules every week so it is perfect for me to experience Tokyo at different times of the day. The school is in the middle of Shinjuku so even though it is a busy neighborhood, you’re pretty much set to go anywhere easily before and after class.The teachers are all very kind, nice, well-prepared (class material and technology) and definitely enthusiastic, and since they’re rotated for every class I think it’s fairest for all students at the school.Even though it’s only 4 hours a day, with the (almost) daily homework (which takes around 30 minutes to do usually), I think it’s the perfect amount to balance with commute, chores and also tourism (the secondary reason for my trip).The classes are entirely in Japanese so it was a bit daunting for the first few classes but I got used to it and over time the classroom-language became readily comprehensible. In this aspect, studying with the school helped with my listening skills and speaking skills the most; since Japanese would be my third language, however, the linguistic/academic-style of learning wasn’t be employed as much (since little English was spoken unless needed), however, the textbook Minna no Nihongo does a good job at explaining the language in that way (it wasn’t said enough to me but I would highly recommend finding anytime to read the lesson chapters ahead of class). I would also recommend learning Kanji from another source first/alongside (I used WaniKani) as MnH’s way of teaching Kanji starts with common kanjis first instead of simple first. The classes definitely plugged my Kanji writing practice (which WaniKani does not have).There are also open desks at the school so you can do homework there if you come early; I appreciate that, as it can be difficult to find a free quiet space in Shinjuku.The school also organizes free events or paid cultural classes, so this was another way for me to plug my trip itinerary. The staff are English speakers so it was easy to sign up or talk about my administration stuff.Overall I enjoyed the experience and would recommend based on the three aspects: location, teachers and good education-programming.

2025年一月Genki JACSで日本語を勉強しました。I studied there for four weeks, and even though it was a short amount of time, I learnt a lot of useful things, especially regarding tenses. The courses were dense and are great if you want to make greta strides in japanese in a short amount of time.おクラスありがとうございます、またすぐに戻りたいです。

就学年の学生として日中に日本語を学ぶことができる小さな学校。教育休暇も可能ですが、通常の休暇を取るか、5日以上の休暇を取る必要があります。または、前年の未使用の教育休暇を追加します。学校の先生たちは一流です。助けと面白い興味深いレッスンに再び感謝します。そして、すべてを整理してくれたDirekt Sprachreisen OHGに感謝します。またコースを受講できるといいですね。 1週間は今ではあまりありませんでしたが、それにより内部化が改善されました。いつもありがとうございました♪お疲れさまでしました！（原文）Eine Kleine Schule wo man als Student mit einem Arbeitsjahr tagsüber japanisch lernen kann. Es geht auch mit Bildungsurlaub, allerdings sollte man dann entweder normalen Urlaub dabei nehmen oder mehr wie 5 Tage haben. Oder nicht genutzten Bildungsurlaub vom Vorjahr hinzufügen.Die Lehrer an der Schule sind wie ich finde spitzenmäßig, danke nochmal für die Hilfe und den amüsant interessant gestalteten Unterricht. Und danke an die Direkt Sprachreisen OHG mit der Organisation des Ganzen. Ich hoffe ich kann nochmal einen Kurs dort belegen. In 2015 I attended Genki for 3 weeks. While it is comparatively expensive, the classes are incredibly high quality. Small groups with a high focus on putting what you learn into practice. I was put into an advanced beginner course which was slightly above my ability but the classes were so fun and motivating that I managed to catch up in a very short time. The teachers were very pleased as well. I was so sad to leave, as it was without a doubt the best educational experience I've ever had, thanks in large part to the teachers. Incredibly friendly, motivated and approachable people. To be completely honest though, I wouldn't recommend going if you are starting Japanese from scratch. Definitely learn the basics beforehand and then go. You'll get so much more return on your investment. Anyone can learn Hiragana and Katakana on their own time in a couple of weeks. Don't need an expensive course for that.Also a word on the location, the school is located in the heart of Tokyo, a short walk from the busiest train station in the world, so in addition to the awesome school you will find yourself in one of the most amazing places on this planet.

I spent about 9 weeks at this language school, and it was truly a wonderful experience for me. I really liked all of the teachers each of them was supportive, friendly, and made the classes enjoyable. The lessons were always fun and engaging. Of course when the grammar is difficult it got serious as well.When I joined, my level was somewhere between N5 and N4, and the teacher assessed my level very accurately and placed me in the right class. I really appreciated how precise the placement process was.I had a great time overall and feel that I improved my Japanese. The school also organizes 1-3 activities a month, which adds a nice social aspect to the experience. For me, it was a very positive and enjoyable period, and I’m glad I chose this school.
