中櫓 (御具足蔵)の特徴
松江城の訪問時には、まず中櫓が目を引く存在です。
外観から歴史を感じる魅力的な建物です。
伝統的な史跡の雰囲気が漂う場所です。
I arrived with my wife to enjoy the Naka-yagura for the first time shortly after visiting Taiko-yagura. On a cold and windy day in early winter, the three reconstructed turrets of the Ninomaru offer a chance to get out of the wind. When I take shelter in the turret, I cannot help but think of the guards who would also be glad for the shelter from wind in the winter, from the sun in summer, and especially from the famous rains of Izumo province. For those who are concerned with details, the day was a Wednesday, 25 December, just before noon.After taking the time to consider the Taiko-yagura to the north, move south along the wall of the upper Ninomaru to see the Naka-yagura. Even if the two turrets have many similarities, the slight differences offer many points of excitement to a turret enthusiast! First, the size: both Taiko-yagura and Naka-yagura are single-story flat turrets. Both have a measurement of 6x3 bays (1 bay is 6.5 shaku), and have a rectangular shape. However ! ! Taiko-yagura is unique for having a shape slightly different from a rectangle, with corners that are not exactly 90 degrees. In contrast, Naka-yagura is a proper rectangle. Both turrets have serious defensive measures, such as gun bays and windows that lift for arrows, and two stone-dropping ramparts on the corners. Even if Taiko-yagura was more critical to castle defense because it overlooks not just Minamisoumon gate but also the stairs leading up to San-no-mon gate, Naka-yagura still has a critical role to play. Further to the south than Taiko-yagura, it has an excellent view to the north on attackers trying to assault Minamisoumon, and offers plenty of shots into the rear of attackers. The interior is unlike the single room of Taiko-yagura, and is divided into two rooms with a wooden dividing wall. Perhaps one side was used as a weapon storage until needed for actively defending the castle.Like Taiko-yagura and Minami-yagura, this turret is not original, having been destroyed in Meiji 8, but it was reconstructed using traditional methods and materials in Heisei 12. While my heart wishes for the reconstruction of the six impressive two-story turrets of the Honmaru, the less impressive turrets of the Ninomaru still excite me and give the solemn feeling of Horio Yoshiharu’s fortress. When I view the Naka-yagura from the outside, I note that it has a simpler style than Taiko-yagura, with no persimmon wood eaves over the entrance. Additionally, the walls are ookabe-zukuri, with a thick layer of shikkui plaster over all of the beams, unlike the shinkabe-zukuri of Taiko-yagura. The walls are also fully clapboarded on all sides, which seems practical for the maintenance of the turret due to the frequent rains of Izumo province. With the tall, black ink clapboards, only a thin segment of pure white shikkui plaster is visible below the tiled roof, which has a clean and simple feeling.Due to the traditional construction methods, please take my shoes off before entering. In the winter, the floor can be very cold, so consider my wife’s technique of putting heating pads in between two sets of socks to stay warm. This time, I took my boots off to join her, so we could enjoy the construction of the wooden beams forming the structure of the turret together.Unlike Taiko-yagura, this turret is not recommended for drum lovers, but turret enthusiasts and Horio Yoshiharu fans can find many details to excite them. Overall, even if I wish I could see a reconstruction of the turrets of the Honmaru, Naka-yagura’s detailed and traditional reconstruction give the true feeling, and I plan to come back to enjoy it again ! ! Please consider it slowly, imagining the Ninomaru Palace that the turret guards.Thank you for your consideration.

中櫓は二の丸東側に建てられた平屋建の櫓です。太鼓櫓と同様に復元遺構となりますが、当時の雰囲気を感じることができます。
松江城におとずれると、まずこの中櫓が出迎えてくれる。

中櫓は、二之丸の東側に建てられた平屋建ての櫓です。江戸時代前期の文献や絵図には「中櫓」または「東ノ矢蔵」という名前が見られ、幕末には「御具足蔵」とも呼ばれていました。この櫓の用途は分かっていませんが、「御具足蔵」という名前のように、中に武具などを保管する倉庫であったことが考えられます。The Central Turret is a one-story building located in the east of the second citadel of Matsue Castle.It is thought that this turret was used as a storehouse for weapons.
