Meeting Mamiyo-san in her shop was one of the most lovely experiences we've had traveling anywhere and a highlight of our time in Japan. She had our daughters accompany her on drums as she sang and played the Shamisen, and showed me how to play. She braided our girls' hair and served us a lovely lunch of udon and rice balls. Her space is filled with photos and memorabilia from her life as a geisha. If you are in Takayama you owe it to yourself to visit.
I was deeply impressed and incredibly happy to meet Mamiyo-san. She was so kind and sweet to us. It was truly the best experience of this trip! She taught us how to play some traditional Japanese instruments, and within just 1-2 minutes, we were already playing together as a band—it was amazing! My husband and I had so much fun. We also got to fold origami, which was absolutely adorable, and I’ll treasure it as a special keepsake.Today, I also had the chance to try shiratama, a chewy treat similar to mochi. Mamiyo-san seemed to handle everything on her own—running the place, making sweets, and preparing drinks. She mentioned that she’s 72 years old (if I remember correctly), but she still looks so young and energetic! If you ever visit Takayama, I highly recommend this place—it’s an experience you shouldn’t miss. And if I have the chance to visit Takayama again, I’ll definitely come back to have fun with Mamiyo-san once more!
We stumbled upon this cafe in one of our explorations of Takayama.Mamiyo sama and her geishas opened their home to us, engaged with us and showed us beautiful bits of the traditions they foster.Mamiyo sama made a long kept dream come true, without being asked, and for that I will always be thankful. The cakes were simple and delicious but it's the people that really stole our hearts.Thank you again! ❤️
Best experience ever and very good matcha and cake! We played the instruments and got free origami as a present. The workers are the nicest
This place is a must if you want to experience a unique and real experience in Japan! It was raining a lot and we just wanted a coffee.. we didn’t know what to expect when we entered this place..Mamiyo is a real Geisha and she will spend all her time to take you through her traditions, instruments, music, origami and I even got a Geisha hairstyle.Mamiyo, thanks for giving us such a lovely time and for showing us a bit of your beautiful culture ❤️
Must visit if in Takayama! One of our best experiences in Japan. Came for a coffee but left with a class in Origami, Geisha music and even a drawing of us.Thanks a lot for an amazing experience, Mamiyo (FYI she is a real Geisha)!

Such an amazing host, a former geisha, Mamiyo-san is the soul of this place. She loves sharing her culture, music and origami skills. I had a choco-banana cake that was delicious, and matcha, made by a pro. Would definitely recommend the cafe at her place to anyone who's looking to soak up the culture while sipping a coffee, or having one of the many savory dishes.
