I was only in Japan for a limited period of time but wanted to go somewhere to start learning conversational Japanese in a comfortable and flexible setting. Unlike a lot of the traditional language schools, Kotoba House has a lot more flexibility with how much and how often you take lessons, all based on your needs. And the personalized experience was also relevant to how they structure learning. When you apply for a trial lesson you can give them a brief overview of what you know and what you want to know then work with a tutor to really tailor your personal experience to meet those goals. Personally I was also drawn to the school by the opportunities to interact with others and actually apply the knowledge you learn in lessons. In my experience it can be hard to find opportunities to comfortably practice a language, but here they offer a lot of opportunities to attend planned social events for a relaxed and fun way to practice conversing with others learning English or Japanese. I felt encouraged to go even if I was just starting out because everyone was incredibly kind and supportive and in the end we could all learn something by conversing in both languages. I met a lot of really nice people in the short time I was here and I really hope I can come back to Japan and continue learning. I’ve gone to other schools for various languages and felt the exact opposite so they are really fostering a great community at Kotoba House. I can’t recommend Kotoba House enough!! I discovered it by chance, and feel so lucky that I did. It’s a really special place. The atmosphere is cosy and very welcoming, and everyone there is so lovely and easy to talk to. My teacher was Yoko. She is an amazing teacher. She catered all the lessons to my learning style and each lesson felt very personalised. Whenever I struggled with particular grammar, she explained things very clearly and was really patient with me. Every lesson was extremely enjoyable and I always looked forward to them!! 本当にありがとうございます！^_^
I had about two months of classes with Natsumi in Kotoba House and I highly recommend it! She was so lovely, adapted the classes to teach me what I needed for my daily life, and attended anytime I had a request. Thank you so much!
Kotoba house is excellent! I’ve been coming for a few weeks doing 1:1 lessons with Chihiro sensei and have really enjoyed the lessons. It’s a lot of fun, too! I highly recommend this school!
The BEST Way to Learn Japanese!I first found Kotoba House while I was enrolled in a traditional Japanese language school—and drowning. Like many of my classmates, I was overwhelmed by a fast-paced, outdated curriculum that focused on archaic Japanese. After five hours of sitting in a classroom conducted entirely in Japanese, I walked out more confused than when I entered.Desperate for clarity, I went to Kotoba House and explained what I was supposed to have learned. Within ten minutes, the staff had already explained what my school couldn’t make clear in five hours. After a single one-hour lesson, I was forming full sentences and holding simple conversations using their method. I withdrew from the school immediately and switched completely to Kotoba House. I have never looked back.Kotoba House is more than a language school—it’s a community. Lessons are personalized through genuine relationship. The teachers take time to get to know you, understand your learning style, help you set meaningful goals, and build a learning plan that actually works. Classes aren’t just about grammar and vocabulary; they’re full of real conversations that prepare you for actual relationships and real-world situations in Japan.What makes Kotoba House special is how deeply they care about cultural understanding. Good place to study Japanese. Compared to bigger schools, Kotoba House has the lowest tuition cost for private lessons. They’re convenient and high quality lessons. You can ask to learn conversation or the JLPT. You can also take English and Spanish lessons if available. There’s also small community events that you can join. Strongly recommend for those who have busy lives and can’t go to language school but could use a little help from professional instructors.
Excellent school to learn Japanese in a very short time. My wife and I used to come here every evening for an hour four times a week for four weeks. Chihiro-san runs an excellent institute with very good teachers who encouraged us to learn so fast. We just enquired if they knew of any school where we can learn how to clean and cut fish to make sashimi. And Chihiro-san found one which was only in Japanese and she booked the class on our behalf and made sure we learned enough Japanese to follow the teacher at the fish cutting school. Chihiro-san went way beyond what he institute is supposed to do. Thank you, Kotoba House team.

英検講座を受けました。中学校の英語も忘れているレベルなので不安でしたが、分からなくても一緒にゆっくり考えさせてくれる授業で、リラックスして受けることができました。分かった時の達成感もあり、実際にライティングの問題に対応するコツもわかり、とても満足のできる内容でした。スタッフの方たちも対応がよく、とても通いやすいです。

I was so happy I found Kotoba House for Japanese lessons during my time in Osaka! Yoko helped me learn specific phrases I could put into practice immediately after leaving our session: at restaurants, at the post office, etc. So I learned new grammar and vocabulary this way, and was able to start using it in my daily interactions. Yoko also gave me some local area recommendations. :-) I highly recommend this school! Don't hesitate to try it out.
