An absolutely delightful and wonderful place to eat. The food is just amazing, our best meal in Japan without a doubt. The atmosphere is historic and lovely, the chef was entertaining and fun, and the view is stunning. This was not just a meal but an absolutely marvelous Japanese experience.
The Willows is a positively unique dinning experience with the courses individually catered to your dietary and taste requirements to an extent I haven't experienced anywhere else in the world. The chef is so capable, that dishes I usually wouldn't try because I don't think I like them, turn out to be fire (amazing)! Also a great atmosphere, contributes to an intimate and enjoyable experience.
We stumbled upon this extremely cool place when we saw something nice looking out from the bridge. Oh dear, we couldn't have been luckier to have come across this bar/restaurant. The owner is the nicest guy. We talked a bit (he is an English-speaker) and on the go he served us some insanely tasty food! A very interesting mix of his Samoan-mexican-american background :) The pork belly and ceviche-like dish called Oka were delicious! Loved every second of this unexpected culinary experience. Highly recommend!
Easily one of the best places to dine and drink in Matsue. The host James is also a fantastic, fun, and very attentive gentleman. Planning on dining here again in the near future.

Fantastic, small restaurant inside the Ohashi ryokan. The food is a fusion of Japanese and Samoan cuisines with an eye to using locally sourced ingredients.The chef, James, is obviously passionate about food and this comes through in the taste and presentation.It is an experience to eat at The Willows. The food is delicious and the service exceptional.
