SUMI Kintsugiの特徴

レアなうるし漆を使い、陶器の美しさを再生するアートを体験できる貴重な機会です。
Learning about and making kintsugi with Natsuko was one of my favorite things I did when I visited Kyoto. The experience takes place at Natsuko's house, which is in a quiet neighborhood near the botanical gardens. (It's easy to get to by metro but is a little tricky to find once on the street, so be sure to get her mobile number beforehand in case you get lost.) My session was small -- me and two others -- so it was perfectly intimate. During the two-hour course, Natsuko took us step-by-step through the history of kintsugi and the many ways to make broken items beautiful. Each step of the process was described and she helped us along the way in case we ran into trouble. She thoughtfully provided beverages and snacks, and I loved playing with her two cats that hung out with us during the class. At the end, you get to take your kintsugi home and Natsuko packages it in padding to ensure it survives the journey. While the kintsugi can be used for food/drinks once it's fully dried, my piece proudly sits on a table and puts a smile on my face every I time I look at it, reminding me of Natsuko and the class. (I even bought a DIY kintsugi kit from POJ Studio to continue exploring my new-found hobby.) 10 out of 10, highly recommended. Arigatou gozaismasu Natsuko-san! :)
Located in a quiet and beautiful northern Kyoto area, this kintsugi studio is very much like the area itself - peaceful and authentic.Natsuko-san is a very patient and encouraging teacher. Open to the questions, passionate about her craft. There’s nothing more inspiring than a person who genuinely loves what she’s doing. And so, my time in this workshop filled me with enthusiasm for ceramic repairs. I had a wonderful time learning and talking about many different things. My appreciation of urushi lacquer (and turpentine, haha) has definitely grown too.Thank you for teaching me!I sincerely wish more people would come to your studio to experience the joy of creating something new and beautiful out of the shards that might’ve gone unappreciated otherwise.

J’ai passé un moment merveilleux avec Natsuko. M’intéressant à la céramique, j’avais une vague connaissance de l’art du Kintsugi, mais je ne l’avais jamais pratiqué. Autour d’un thé, Natsuko m’a expliqué la fabrication de la laque, matière précieuse, si difficile à récolter, tellement rare et si longue à produire. Et bien sûr, l’or... Puis, elle m’a montré comment assembler les tessons de céramique et déposer la laque avec un fin pinceau. L’ambiance était tellement sereine et apaisante que j’ai pu me concentrer complètement pour parfaire mon geste. Quelle satisfaction et quel plaisir ! Merci Natsuko pour cette initiation qui me laisse entrevoir cet art ancestral.
Would definitely recommend this for someone who’s looking for an authentic Kintsugi experience!!!Loved the whole experience hosted by Natsuke. From explaining the concept of Kintsugi in detail to the different methods and the cultural significance. She also was super sweet and made us feel very comfortable.I’m so glad that I decided to do my first Kintsugi class here and definitely will try to come back again!Thank you Natsuke!!!
The kintsugi workshop was absolutely amazing!I took a modern kintsugi class so that I could take the repaired pottery home the same day, but Natsuko also introduced the traditional kintsugi method which was so fascinating! I loved her passison for the traditional craft 😊Natsuko was one of the sweetest and kindest people I met during my trip to Japan ❤️ And she was a wonderful teacher, too.For me it was an absolutely unique and heartwarming experience, offering a beautiful view into Japanese culture 🥰 Would definitely recommend to anyone searching for an exceptional experience!
Natsuko's kintsugi workshop was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan!We took the modern kintsugi class, because we wanted to fix a complete piece of pottery and take it home in one sitting. But Natsuko also showed us the traditional technique using lacquer (and way more patience), too, and explained many details of the entire process.She was such a lovely and attentive host and a teacher, always offering a helping hand when needed. It was apparent that she truly cares about her craft.It was a very relaxing and inspiring experience, we didn't even notice how the time went by. I could definitely do this for a whole day and don't get bored.I highly recommend SUMI Kintsugi if you're in the area.(P.S. If you use google maps to navigate, it will take you to a dentist's clinic on the other side of the block. You need to go around from the other side.)

We had a lovely time with Natsuko. She made it very personal with her lovely warm manner. Her home is beautiful. It was an amazing experience and we would recommend it 100%!!!!!!!
