Genuinely a highlight on my solo Nakasendo trip. Kaho and Masa were the sweetest host ever, and they made me feel immediately welcomed and at ease. The house was so beautiful, with attention to details everywhere. It felt like an oasis on the Nakasendo trail. The dinner and breakfast was delicious, with fresh vegetables from farms nearby and locally farmed rice. This place is a must stay when you are in Nagiso for the night!!
Our stay in the guest house Waku was the highlight of our trip along the nakasendo trail. The room seems to have stepped straight out of a movie and the dinner was delicious after a walking days.I would definitely recommend you to make a stop here during your trip !
The best guest house I’ve ever stayed in! It felt straight out of a Studio Ghibli movie. I will remember it for many years to come.Kaho and Masa created a really beautiful, cozy space in this historic wooden countryside home. The living room was a real highlight - it was so pleasant to just sit there and listen to music playing in the background. The room had a Japanese style porch overlooking a luscious garden full of flowers, including hydrangeas, which were beautiful to watch in the morning rain. The hosts were incredibly friendly and warm - I felt welcome from the second I crossed the doorstep. They were so open and willing to engage, sharing their life stories and asking about mine.I also appreciated all the personal touches like the MUJI skincare products available in the shared bathroom and the ride that Masa gave me in his house to the train station because it was raining.Staying here is an experience that should be on your bucket list if you’re hiking the Nakasendo trail!
An absolute must-stay if you're hiking the Nakasendo Trail, but definitely so worth a visit even if you're not! They also serve excellent vegetarian food.By far the best place to stay in Japan so far. Maso and Kaho were super lovely and made the stay even better.10/10, I would recommend!! :)
Amazing stay! The hosts Masa and Kano are a lovely married couple who are incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful. They speak both English and Japanese, which makes everything easy. The house is beautiful and has a very authentic Japanese atmosphere. The rooms are comfortable, well insulated, and the beds are spacious.Whether you’re staying for one night or longer, I highly recommend this place. Don’t hesitate to book. you won’t regret it!
Dear Kaho and Masa,Thank you so much for hosting us and always paying attention to even the smallest details.Dear reader,I can wholeheartedly recommend this accomodation. It is right along the Nakasendo and a good starting point when hiking through Tsumago and Magome. The accomodation was very clean, the garden beautifully maintained, toilets and showers are also in great condition. The rooms are cozy, spaceous and offer a great view as well as protection from the insects outside. We ordered dinner and breakfast. Both rich in fresh vegetables and prepared skillfully by Kaho. It is especially great, that a vegetarian option is offered, which is rare in Japan.Masa and Kaho are very kind and attentive. When Masa showed us our room for the first time he rearranged the slippers nicely before leaving. It amazed me that they pay attention to even the smallest things.
We stayed at Guesthouse Waku while hiking the Nakasendo Trail, and we were so happy to discover this beautiful little place. We were proud to be among their first guests and can already see how much care and passion the hosts are putting into it.The guesthouse is incredibly cozy and peaceful. The house is over 100 years old, but beautifully renovated while still keeping its traditional atmosphere. Sleeping on the tatami with the futons was such a special experience and honestly some of the most comfortable sleep I’ve had in a long time. I think I slept almost 10 hours just listening to the sounds of nature around the house. We also chose to have dinner and breakfast, and both were absolutely worth it. Everything felt thoughtful, authentic, and very welcoming. The next morning, we continued our trip along the Nakasendo Trail feeling completely rested. We would definitely recommend staying here to anyone looking for a calm and authentic experience in Japan. We wish the hosts all the best for the future. They are doing a wonderful job, and we are sure many more guests will love this place as much as we did.
A small but not at all cramped guesthouse ran by a friendly couple. Great place to experience a bit of old Japan, but also enjoy a more modern approach to it. Lovely two, who provide great meals that's hard to find in the area, and you'll feel at home in between your hike trough the Nakasendo path! You might hear the sound of others from the room, but if you could think of it as a little bit of company, you'll be able to enjoy everything offered here!
