I spent over an hour at this store admiring the different fabrics and techniques of up-cycling kimonos. Even though I don’t speak Japanese, the owner, Kumiko, and I still had a great conversation about various items in her store through a translation app. All the items are made by a collective of women artists in Hokkaido who repurpose old kimonos! I bought many things for myself and friends, and if I am in the area again, I would definitely return!! Thank you Kumiko for the wonderful experience! It was so fun connecting with you!
Anyone coming to Otaru should visit this shop. The shop owners are so friendly and helpful. Everything is handmade and upcycled with love. We loved it so much last year we had to come back again! There are some beautiful pieces made with old kimono. Every piece has a sentimental story that you can add to. There are a lot of non-clothing items that make perfect gifts if you are concerned about sizes. Kimiko-san is an amazing artist.
